The Northallerton Area branch draws its membership from a wide swathe of northern England and many of its members are active volunteers of the railway working in all departments of the railway.

The branch meets regularly usually on the third Monday of each month in Northallerton Town Cricket Club, which is situated off Farndale Avenue, from September to May inclusive –  but with a break in December for an annual Christmas get together.

The 250 Club, a monthly draw running annually from November to October, which distributes about £3,000 in prizes and a similar amount to railway projects which would not otherwise be funded.
Over £22000 has been awarded since to date, with recent items being purchased including rail trolleys for the vegetation clearance and infrastructure teams, an impact wrench for infrastructure and essential safety critical calibrated gauges for the operations department
We take our publicity stand to various events, such as the York Model Railway Show, Newby Hall Tractor Fest, The Wensleydale Show, and the Autumn Steam Gala at Locomotion in Shildon.
Eighteen members and friends visited the Hitachi train factory in Newton Aycliffe on June 5th 2017 and were shown all aspects of work there, including inspecting trains in various stages of construction.
