Since losing our excellent former co-ordinator, Peter Williams, we have been a “virtual branch”. The widely scattered location of the numerous members make regular events at a convenient location difficult to arrange. Therefore events are arranged on an irregular basis -. we had 3 very successful events in 2016:
Peter organised an interesting and enjoyable visit to the Spa Valley Railway where we received a great welcome, learnt a lot, and spread the word about or railway. We hope that these annual visits to learn from other railways that Peter organises will still continue despite all the pressures on Peter’s time.
Donald Wilson organised an excellent meeting to host the railway’s General Manager, Nigel Park, who gave an inspiring talk about the many successes and challenges of our railway and left us all enthused but also aware of the need for more resources of all kinds to accelerate our growth and secure what we have already achieved.
Judith Hunter organised a very successful day trip to the Wensleydale to visit the railway where we were greeted by many who generously gave of their time to show the group around culminating in a visit to the excellent Scruton Station project.
All the branch notices and event communications are now through WR Link which is an excellent free monthly newsletter (with special editions when needed). This means that WR supporters can access the events whether they are strictly in the South East or not. It also avoids the problem of having to keep two separate email list updated. Please contact the WR Link editor here to be put on the mailing list.
