At the 2017 AGM, one of our members generously agreed to pay for a new 2 road shed to be built at Leeming Bar. The project started in early 2018 with the removal of the single track poly tunnel. The new shed is is up and the second track is being installed. We will soon be in a position to offer covered accommodation for up to 4 locomotives and also permit all year maintenance, no matter what the Yorkshire weather throws at us.
For many years the railway has been operating with a very simple layout at Leyburn. To allow for future extension we need a more complex arrangement, so are adding a loop, with a new second platform, signal box and foot bridge.
The railway is currently upgrading all of our automatic level crossings. We have completed the work on Aiskew crossing, which allows us to continue operating between Leeming and Redmire. To allow the route to Northallerton to re-open for passenger traffic we also need to upgrade to crossings at Ham Hall and Yafforth Lane. The good news is that we have the equipment for Yafforth, and should be in a position to upgrade that crossing shortly. The bad news is that the Ham Hall crossing is a bit of an oddball, having been a ‘trial’ of equipment dating back from the 1970’s. This will need to be replaced with something more up to date.
Exciting plans are afoot for the restoration and redisplay of the Grade II Listed Station House at Leeming Bar
